East Petersburg, Lancaster County

About a year ago, a friend of mine had a party at his house. After a couple of beers, the topic of ghosts and hauntings popped up.

His wife works for an insurance company in downtown East Pete. Their office is an old, rennovated house with a cute carriage house that was also turned into an office. She began telling me about the various things that took place there. She told me it was common for things to disappear and reappear elsewhere.

She also told me that there's one part of the office that always seems colder than usual, dispite the fact that the sun beams through there for a good portion of the day. Another incident that occurred was that a customer brought her small child with her and the child refused to go into that very same office. But the story that she told me that really grabbed my attention was about one of her co-workers.

It seems that this particular co-worker usually worked afterhours to catch up on the backlog of work. One night she needed something from the third floor of the office (used to be the attic). She knew she would be awhile, so she locked the front door and proceeded to the third floor. As she was going through some files, she heard the very familiar sound of the front door chime. It rang as though someone walked in. She knew that couldn't be possible, because she locked the door. She stood there for a second or two, perplexed, and decided that maybe she didn't secure the door as well as she thought. So, she started down the steps to the first floor to see if there was a client waiting for assistance. As you've probably figured out, there was nobody there. She, once again, checked the door. It was still locked securely. She went through each of the rooms to make sure nobody "slipped" in. Convinced that she just imagined the whole thing, she went back up to the third floor. After a few minutes, she heard the door chimes again. She went back down to check the door again. This time, she got the feeling that she wasn't alone in the office. She grabbed all her stuff and left the building in a hurry. She refuses to work in the building, by herself, and swears the place is haunted.

My friend's wife, and her boss, were kind enough to allow us to "check the place out". There were no murders or violent crimes committed in the house to the best of the owner's knowledge. The only thing that the current owner found out about the old house is that the original owner's wife and the owner of the bar, directly across the street, were having an affair. Other than that, it seemed like any other house.

We did an EVP session on each floor of the old home. We managed to get a few positive results. Photos and video came up empty. The room, I mentioned earlier, that is always cold was infact very cold. It was ten degrees colder than the rest of the house. Despite this difference in temperature, all attempts to capture anything paranormal came up empty.

Although we managed to grab a few EVPs, nothing out of the ordinary happened. We would like to get back there again to see if we might have better luck with a return visit. We'll keep you posted !
